Johan Halvorsen (1864-1935), one of the leading national composers of modern Norway and a violin virtuoso, had a special relationship with the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra, having served as its concertmaster and principal conductor.The composer Halvorsen has had a very significant impact on the Norwegian musical scene, including the development of the Norwegian National Romanticism established by Grieg. Järvi and the Bergen Philharmonic's Halvorsen's previous first collection (CHAN 10584) received a great response. The remarkable second collection includes the masterpiece "Symphony No. 2," subtitled "Fate! Like Beethoven and Tchaikovsky, the "Fate Motif" appears in all four movements, and the oboe plays the cantilena in the second movement. ......
