Sir Andreu Davis' "CHANDOS" exclusive first appearance! Sir Andreu Davis, a master of British music, has been invited to join the Chandos conducting team to carry on the legacy of Hickox and Handley, who passed away suddenly. The first Chandos recording of Elgar's "The Crown of India" is not the suite version usually performed by Chandos, but the world's first full-length recording of the "Court Masque". Moreover, two versions are included in this recording, making this the first step forward for Chandos and Androux Davis, two of the "standard-bearers of British music" in the world! The "Crown of India," a "court masque," was first performed in 1912, but the original was lost in the 1960s, making it impossible to perform it in its entirety. In 2007, the Elgar Society in the UK commissioned Anthony Payne, who had also restored Elgar's Symphony No. 3 and Symphony No. 6 to their original state, to write a new version of "Indian Crown".The "Court Masque" "The Crown of India," completed in 2008 thanks to Payne's efforts, was chosen as the Chandos debut program for Andrew Davis.
