John Adams' Violin Concerto, written in 1993. It is a masterpiece that is distinct from the minimalism of its contemporaries, a bedrock of turn-of-the-century decadence and the inorganic elements of the same era. The first recording by Gidon Kremer and Kent Nagano was also released on Nonesuch, and this is the first new Nonesuch recording of this piece in 28 years. Following "Scheherazade.2," which was written with the women who must survive the harsh conditions of modern life in mind, Leela Josefowitz plays the solo violin. She and conductors David Robertson and John Adams are family friends, and she is guided in her performance by his many suggestions. The music soars through the middle of the piece, at times moving and at other times raging, and Adams' beautiful, powerful, and thrilling performance is recorded here. Warner Music Japan
