The anthology "Parthenia" was published in 1613 to celebrate the marriage of Elizabeth Steuart, daughter of Elector Frederick V of the Palatinate and James I. It contains 21 pieces by Gibbons, Byrd, and Bull. The title comes from Greek, meaning "pure maiden. Alina Rotaru, one of the most prominent harpsichordists in Europe today and a master of Renaissance and Baroque keyboard music, has long had a keen interest in this collection, and has enjoyed the pleasure of finding the many "E" (Elizabeth) and "F" (Friedrich) notes hidden in the pieces, and the opportunity to unravel the exquisite polyphony. She says that she became fascinated by the pleasure of searching for the many hidden "E" (Elizabeth) and "F" (Friedrich) notes in the work, and the portrayal of a young princess in the 17th century by playing the entire piece while unraveling the exquisite polyphony.
