Betul Soykan won a special prize for the best concerto competition in Switzerland and was chosen to play Samuel Barber's Violin Concerto with the Bern Symphony Orchestra. The eighth piece "Hymn to the Immortality of Jesus" from the Quartet for the End of the World, also known as the "Second Hymn to the Eternity of Jesus," is a violin and piano duet, a slow anthem in the heavenly slowness typical of Messiaen, played on the violin by Betul Soykan. The album is a collection of 600 songs by European Jewish musicians, many of whom were Jews. The album is inspired by the Nazi Holocaust of World War II, in which 6 million European Jews were killed.
