Israeli mandolin virtuoso Jacob Reuven makes his Hyperion debut with an album combining Vivaldi's "The Four Seasons" and Piazzolla's "The Four Seasons", which cleverly weaves Vivaldi quotes into tango diction! Studied at the Beersheba Conservatory and the Jerusalem Academy of Music and Dance, Leuven has a broad musical vision that ranges from baroque to contemporary music, and captivates audiences with his overwhelming virtuosity and uncompromising performance. He has already appeared at many international music festivals and performed with renowned conductors and orchestras such as Zubin Mehta and Mstislav Rostropovich, and has established himself as a top player as a member of the Israel Mandolin Soloists and the Kelman Quartet. He is highly regarded as one of the most popular virtuosos today.Providing good support for Leuven's performance on this "Four Seasons" album is Omar Meir Werber, another Israeli-born young hope who replaced Fanho Mena as principal conductor of the BBC Philharmonic beginning in the 2019/2020 season. In addition to conducting Sinfonietta Leipzig, he also plays accordion and harpsichord. They complement the mandolin, which plays the leading role. The instruments used by Reuven are custom-made by Arik Kelman, a world-renowned Israeli mandolin craftsman. The mandolins made by Mr. Kelman are said to be so revolutionary and perfect that imitations of them are sold all over the world, and Reuven says, "Over the years, I have met many mandolin players and makers, and played on many mandolins from all over the world. But I have never met an instrument that can match the possibilities and shades of sound that Arik Kelman's mandolins create." He exclaims.
