The Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts is a large cultural complex with two halls: a theater with a proscenium-style stage that seats 1,800, and a 1,600-seat concert hall for classical music.The American Society of Consulting Engineers presented the building with a "Grand Conceptor Award" for its structural engineering, and the area has recently become the focus of attention as a rapidly growing cultural arts destination in Kansas City. The pipe organ is integrated with the walls of the hall, forming a similar arch that creates a natural expanse of sound.
