An EP including remixes from the eight-hour sleep-listening masterpiece "SLEEP" is now available on Vinyl. A digital EP created for this year's World Sleep Day is now available on Vinyl, featuring electronic remixes of Richter's eight-hour masterpiece and most-streamed classic album of all time, SLEEP (2015). The remixes were supervised by electronic musician Kelly Lee Owens and sound artist Alva Noto under Richter's supervision. In creating this EP, I was able to revisit the album "Sleep" and see what it means to me at this moment in 2023," said Richter. Sleep is a kind of rebuttal to what is happening in the world. It is a kind of alternative to the world we live in, an alternative to the way things should be, and one that can shed light on what we need to improve. I have been following Max Richter's work for many years now, and it is a great honor to be able to remodel for him.The original music, played primarily on classical instruments, was transposed into an electronic sound world by combining it with electronic sheet music. I drew inspiration from the early science fiction novels of Isaac Asimov and Philip K. Dick. Dick's "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?" and the concept of a computer that dreams and has an independent consciousness (the key phrase being "ghost in the machine") are themes that particularly resonate with me, which I tried to bring out in the remodel. When I first heard the vocals on this song, I was moved to tears, and I wanted to create a reworking that had everything else swirling around it. The vocals were both ancient and magical to the future.After all, there is nothing more emotionally direct than the human voice, so I layered my own strings, synths, and percussion to highlight that emotion."- Kelly Lee Owens, Universal Music/IMS
