Description:

DG Debut Album by France's Leading Violinist Deutsche Grammophon is launching a new partnership with Renaud Capuçon, one of France's leading violinists. The first release is a live recording of a concert with Martha Argerich at the Easter Festival in Aix-en-Provence, France, in April of this year. Included are three well-known works for violin and piano. Schumann's Sonata No. 1, Beethoven's Sonata No. 9 "Kreutzer," and Franck's Sonata in A major. The concert is dedicated to the American pianist Nicolas Angelisch, who just passed away this past April, and who was a friend and companion to both of them. First meeting 30 years ago as young violinists and already legendary pianists, Capuçon and Argerich are now a solid duo. They know each other so well that whenever they go out on stage together, Capuçon says, "I have no anxiety at all. It's like we are jumping hand in hand. Born in Chambéry, France in 1976, Renaud Capuçon studied at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique in Paris from the age of 14 before moving to Berlin to study with Thomas Brandis and Isaac Stern. He has received numerous awards. In addition to being a leading soloist, he has performed with many leading orchestras, including the Berlin Philharmonic and the Boston Symphony Orchestra. Capuçon is also already well known for his work supporting young artists and commissioning new music: he was music director of the Easter Festival of Aix-en-Provence, which he founded in 2013, and has been music director of the Gstaad Winter Music Festival since 2016. He was also appointed artistic director of the Orchestre de chambre de Lausanne in the fall of 2021. Universal Music/IMS
