The Emerson String Quartet, the world's premier string quartet based in New York City and a leader in the world of chamber music, will disband at the end of the 2022/23 season, The quartet has been active in a wide range of repertoire, from Bach to contemporary works, and has made many recordings for Deutsche Grammophon, with whom it has had an exclusive contract since 1987. Now all of these recordings are being released in a 55-CD box set, which includes the Decca Gold album "Chaconne, Fantasia Collection/Britten & Purcell" and the New York concert with Evgeny Kyshyn (2 CDs), as well as the Decca Gold album "Chaconne, Fantasia Collection/Britten & Purcell" (51 CDs + Bonus CD), which was released to celebrate the 40th anniversary in 2016. and the New York Concerts with the Emerson String Quartet (2-CD set) have been added to the set. The Emerson String Quartet has won nine Grammy Awards, three Gramophone Awards, and the first Avery Fisher Award as a chamber music ensemble during its career. The booklet includes liner notes by Richard Evidon, a foreword by violinist Eugene Drucker, and many rare photographs....When Philip Setzer and I formed the quartet with two friends from the Juilliard School, we had no idea what kind of journey we were about to embark on..."
