Description:
The second album by a contemporary female composer who is engaged in the encounter between East and West and the fusion of various types of music. This is the second ECM album by Constantia Gruzzi, a female composer born in Athens and based in Munich. It combines chamber and orchestral works composed during the last decade. Gruzi herself conducts the Lucerne Festival Academy Orchestra. Composing and conducting are inseparable as a whole," he says. Gruzzi is particularly interested in bringing the arts together. This, of course, involves issues of her own artistic identity and the influence of her birthplace, Greece. Gruzzi's musical language is a recurring blend of elements from various musical traditions, bringing East and West into dialogue. The album contains three works: his third string quartet, Anajikon; the orchestral work Ny-el (commissioned by the Lucerne Festival and performed with the Lucerne Festival Academy Orchestra in August 2016); and Hommage a Mozart The album contains the following works.
