Mozart (1756-1791)
Description:
Pianist Momo Kodama won the highest prize in the piano section of the 1991 Munich International Competition as the youngest winner, and since then she has been active in Paris. She is highly acclaimed for her French works, especially Messiaen's works. Her talent was recognized by the renowned producer Manfred Eicher, and in 2013, she released her first ECM album featuring works by Ravel, Messiaen, and Toru Takemitsu, captivating many fans with her beautiful tone and intelligent performances. In 2017, he released his second ECM album, a unique album featuring Debussy's late masterpiece "Exercises" and Toshio Hosokawa's etude written in the 21st century, which attracted a great deal of attention. This is the third ECM release in four years, and is a package of the highly acclaimed December 2006 performance by Seiji Ozawa and the Mito Chamber Orchestra at the ATM Concert Hall in Art Tower Mito. It features Mozart's "Piano Concerto No. 23" and Toshio Hosokawa's "Moonlit Lotus - Homage to Mozart," which was composed in 2006 as a tribute to Mozart and was performed for the first time in Japan at this concert. The crystal-clear piano sound and the lush performance by the Mito Chamber Orchestra conducted by Seiji Ozawa, which makes its first appearance on ECM, leave a vivid impression, and this is a remarkable work that not only fans but also Momo Kodama herself had been eagerly waiting for its commercialization. This conceptual coupling of the world premiere of Hosokawa's work, which was also performed by Kodama himself, and the Mozart work that was the basis for the homage, is to be enjoyed on the ECM disc, which has an established reputation for its high sound quality. Toshio Hosokawa's "Moonlit Lotus" was commissioned by the North German Radio (NDR) to commemorate the 250th anniversary of Mozart's birth, and the commission was to choose one of Mozart's piano concertos and to compose a new work with the same instrumentation. Mr. Hosokawa chose Piano Concerto No. 23, and the completed "Moonlit Lotus" was given its world premiere by Momo Kodama in Hamburg in 2006. In December of that year, Momo Kodama gave the world premiere of the piece in Hamburg, Germany, with Seiji Ozawa & the Mito Chamber Orchestra. It is a record of a rare concert in which Mozart's original concerto No. 23 and Toshio Hosokawa's Moonlit Lotus were performed simultaneously. Universal Music/IMS
