Paris-based Momo Kodama's ECM debut disc! Commemorative disc for her visit to Japan. Paris-based pianist Momo Kodama makes her ECM recording debut! The album features Ravel's works coupled with Toru Takemitsu and Messiaen, and traces the transition of piano music from Ravel to the present day. ＜Pianist Momo Kodama won the highest prize in the piano section of the 1991 Munich International Competition as the youngest pianist ever, and since then she has continued her energetic activities based in Paris. Although she specializes in French works, she also plays a wide repertoire of contemporary music from Bach to Messiaen, and is highly acclaimed both in Japan and abroad. The fact that the ECM label, which is strict about quality, has chosen to use her is a testament to this. This album couples Ravel's "Mirror" with works by two contemporary composers who were strongly influenced by Ravel.After a small work by Toru Takemitsu, the recording includes Messiaen's greatest piano work, "Elderberry", which is said to be her greatest work. Since Messiaen is her most important repertoire, this recording shows ECM's high expectations and her strong enthusiasm. Universal Music/IMS
