Description:
Lori Scacco is a female artist who formerly served as the pianist and guitarist for Seeley, a shoegaze/dream pop band that released music on TooPure, and who currently performs as part of the duo Storms with Eva Puero Munz, a member of Savas & Savaras. This album, *Circles*, is Lori’s only solo work and was released in 2004 on EasternDevelopments, run by Scott Hellen. She composed and produced all the tracks and performed most of the instruments herself. Simple tones from acoustic guitar, piano, and electric piano float, colored by natural reverberation, while Tim Delaney’s upright bass—featured throughout—accompanies them, creating a melancholic yet warm sound that gently envelops the listener. Built with the bare minimum of acoustic sounds, the album is extremely serene, yet the song structures and accents are exquisite; you never tire of listening to it—rather, you find yourself drawn in deeper and deeper. The album is entirely instrumental and, while it resonates with the chamber music, post-rock, and electro-acoustic sounds of its time, it also possesses a flavor that connects to today’s post-classical scene. It is a timeless masterpiece that continues to be highly regarded as a masterpiece by some even today, and I sincerely hope that this reissue—marking the 10th anniversary of its original release—will reach the ears of as many people as possible.
