Plastic Eternity," their 11th album in four and a half years and their 35th anniversary with the label this year. The world is filled with trash. Fortunately for the Seattle-based band Mudhoney, the absurdities of modern life have always been a good subject. On their eleventh studio album, Plastic Eternity, the foursome (Mark Arm on vocals, Steve Turner on guitar, Guy Maddison on bass, and Dan Peters on drums) take aim at the absurdity of it all with wry humor and muddy riffs. Since the band's formation in the late 1980s, Mudhoney has remained a staple of the underground with its combination of primal punk and Arm's sharp, funny lyrics. Meanwhile, the recording of Plastic Eternity involved a number of firsts for the band. First, because Maddison planned to move his family to Australia, the recording took place with longtime producer Johnny Sangster on a nine-day deadline at Seattle's Crackle & Pop!In addition, the pandemic prevented the band from gathering at the rehearsal space for nearly a year and a half, resulting in a record filled with half-forgotten riffs and early ideas rather than fully rehearsed songs. Moreover, Plastic Eternity is the first time Mudhoney has given writing credit to someone outside the band. Sangster, whom Arm calls "more versed in music theory than any of us," helped out from time to time to advise on song direction. In addition, unusually for Mudhoney, the album includes two love songs ("Tom Herman's Hermits" and "Little Dogs"). When asked why they continue to make records nearly 40 years after their formation, Arm's answer was simple. We like each other and we like being in a band together." For some, it's an excuse to get together with friends for poker nights or whatever. For us, that's what this band is about." Mudhoney is an alternative rock band formed in 1988 in Seattle, Washington, USA.The band members Mark Arm (Vo, G), Steve Turner (G), Dan Peters (Dr), and Guy Maddison (B) debuted in 1988 with the single "Touch Me I'm Sick" on Sub Pop. They moved to a major label with their third album, 1992's Piece of Cake, but returned to Sub Pop with their sixth album, 2002's Since We've Become Translucent, and released their ninth album, 2013's He is known as a pioneer in the Seattle music scene, which spawned grunge and greatly influenced Nirvana's Kurt Cobain, among others.
