Contrabassist Niek de Floort, principal soloist at the RCO and elsewhere! Dutch double bassist Niek de Floete originally studied trumpet and began playing double bass at the age of 18. He was selected to become the principal solo double bassist of the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra at an unprecedented speed, a position he held for 10 years, and has been the principal double bassist of several other ensembles in Europe. In recent years, he has focused on chamber music and solo performance, performing regularly in many prestigious concert halls and festivals. De Floete and pianist Catherine Klipfel have been performing together for 20 years. As a Frenchman, Klipfel and de Froat, who has many musical roots in France, often focused on French repertoire. This album features De Floete's own transcriptions of masterpieces by leading French composers.
