After studying composition at Harvard University with Walter Piston, he moved to Europe to study composition with Hindemith and Copland at Tanglewood, respectively.His style is basically an intense expressionist style based on 12-tone technique and free atonality. Among them, "Romanza" for flute and piano is a fine piece with a beautiful melody that could be described as modern lyricism.
