The third solo album for Sony Classical by Katia Buniatishvili, born in 1987 in Georgia, is a long-awaited collection of pieces titled "Motherland" = "Homeland. The theme of the album is the eternal cycle of life and death, and the strong feeling for the land of one's birth and upbringing. From Bach to Pärt, Brahms to Kancheli, lullabies, nostalgic songs, folk songs, memorials, and more, the 17 pieces on this album are all significant to Katia Buniatishvili, an artist of many different styles and eras.The album is a multi-layered experience that seems to reveal Katya's personal feelings, such as the contrast between Dvořák's Slavonic Dances No. 2, filled with joy and happiness, and Grieg's melancholy "Nostalgia," or Mendelssohn's graceful "Lost Visions" and Liszt's introspective "Lullaby," as well as the strangeness of Chopin's exercises and Brahms's interludes coexisting with Pärt and Ligeti.
