This is the debut album of the up-and-coming period instrument orchestra Compagnia di Punto, formed in Cologne in 2010 in honor of Giovanni Punto, a horn player and composer active in 18th century Bohemia. The founder, conductor, and horn player Christian Binde, who has played natural horn in various period instrument orchestras, founded "Compagnia di Punto" in 2010 with the best musicians and music school teachers in Europe. In recent years, the group has been re-performing some of Rossetti's lesser-known works (and compiling and publishing scores for some of them), and has received high acclaim for their work. Antonio Rossetti, known by his Italianate name, was a Bohemian-born composer whose real name was František Antonín Lestrel, who left Bohemia in 1773 and joined the court orchestra of the Marquis of Öttingen-Wallerstein for six years. It was during this time that he changed his name to Antonio Rossetti. He was active and published many works, called himself a "refined musician," and lived a happy life.Among the many pieces he left behind, his horn concertos are especially famous, and according to Mozart scholar H.C. Robbins Landon, they may have served as a model for Mozart's horn concertos. Perhaps for this reason, many of his concertos for wind instruments and wind ensembles seem to be performed comparatively often. This album also includes a concerto and a symphony for wind instruments. Often these pieces are described as "soft and beautiful in tone," but Compagnia di Punto and her colleagues have taken a fresh look at the score and the playing techniques of the time, and have used the tonal variations and wild sounds that only the natural horn can achieve, to discover a passionate intensity hidden in the score.
