Produced by Jack Frost (=Bob Dylan), the 10-song album is Bob Dylan's 36th studio album and his first since 2012's "Tempest," which received worldwide acclaim. Bob Dylan describes the new album as follows. It was a real honor to make this album. I've always wanted to do something like this, but I've never had the courage to do a complex 30-piece arrangement with a five-piece band. That's the key to all the performances on this album. We knew these songs so well that we recorded everything in one shot. Some songs took two takes or more, but we did not overdub, we did not use vocal booths or headphones, and we did not do any separate tracking. Above all, we mixed the songs exactly as they were recorded.I don't consider these songs to be covers by any means. They have already been covered enough. Or rather, they have been covered so much that their essence has been buried. What my band members and I are doing is basically removing the covers. We dug the essence out of the grave and gave it new life," explained Rob Stringer, chairman of Columbia Records in the United States. There are no strings, no overt wind instruments, no background vocals, and none of the other trappings that are common on standard ballad albums. Instead, Bob breathes new life into these songs and gives them meaning today." Bob Dylan's five recent studio recordings have been acclaimed as the best of his storied career, and have achieved new levels of commercial success and critical acclaim. His last album, 2012's "Tempest," reached the Top 5 in 14 countries upon its release. In the last few years, the band has toured concerts all over the world, adding songs from this album to their set lists.From March 31 to April 23, 2014, the band toured Japan for a total of 17 shows, showing Japanese fans the "newest" Bob Dylan, free of nostalgia. The lead track from this album, "Full Moon And Empty Arms," was already released earlier in May 2014, indicating the fullness of this album.
