Description:

ZZ TOP frontman Billy F. Gibbons' third solo album in three years is a rock and roll piece that fans have been waiting for! Recorded at Escape Studios in the High Desert desert near Palm Springs, California, the album was produced by Gibbons as well as Matt Sorum and Mike Fiorentino, who also participated in the previous album, and provided additional production! Engineered by Chad Schlosser. Veteran drummer Matt Sorum, who has worked with Guns N' Roses, Velvet Revolver, and Cult, also handles drums, and Austin Hanks plays guitar. Larkin Poe, a long-time friend of the band, also participates on one track. The album's title is a tribute to the late Joe Hardy, a legendary recording engineer who worked with Gibbons and ZZ Top in the mid-1980s. Eleven of the twelve songs on the album are original compositions, and compared to his two previous solo albums, this album is all rock and roll. The album is a wide-ranging approach, but the distinctive tone and growling vocals that characterize Billy Gibbons' artistry are also on full display on this album, with elements of traditional hard rock, neo-metal, country rock, new wave, blues, and even surf music. This album is a must-listen for all rock fans, and contains elements of traditional hard rock, neo-metal, country rock, new wave, blues, and even surf music. The preceding single, "West Coast Junkie," takes listeners on a trip to the desert! Although Gibbons is from Texas, he has actually been working in the California desert for years, and this song emphasizes that atmosphere. Gibbons says, "We were stuck in the desert for a few weeks during the hot summer months, which was pretty intense in itself. For this album, we just focused on 'rocking out' to relieve some of that stress. That is the essence of Hardware. It is mostly intense rock, but always with an awareness of the implicit mystique of the desert. The desert environment, with its shifting sands, cacti, and rattlesnakes, lends an element of intrigue to the sounds that emerge.
