Born in Vienna of Czech ancestry, his career has taken him from Germany to the United States. His style ranges from romantic to neoclassical, atonal, polytonal, and jazz. He left more than 200 works in all genres, wrote a supplement to Mahler's Tenth Symphony, and was married for a time to his daughter Anna. ...... This is a collection of works by Křenek, who lived an overly varied life. The title "Symphonic Dirge" was composed in memory of Webern, who died in 1945. Although it is a dirge, the piece itself has quite a lot of movement, and the insistent pizzicato that appears in the bass part seems to symbolize a funeral rhythm.
