Description:
C-major" label continues to release Mahler Cycle by Paavo Järvi & Frankfurt Radio Symphony Orchestra. This time, Mahler cycle No. 5 and No. 6 are recorded. This cycle was recorded live at the "Rheingau Music Festival," which has been held every summer since 1988 in the small wine-growing town of Rheingau on the banks of the Rhine in Wiesbaden, Hesse, Germany. Pervo Järvi is currently Music Director of the Orchestre de Paris, Artistic Director of the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie, and Music Director of the Frankfurt Radio Symphony Orchestra, and was appointed Chief Conductor of the NHK Symphony Orchestra in September 2015. In September 2015, he was appointed Principal Conductor of the NHK Symphony Orchestra, and in the NHK Symphony Orchestra subscription concert that preceded his official appointment, he gave a convincing and excellent performance. The first is the 2011 recording of the Mara 5, which was performed by Paavo Järvi and the orchestra when they visited Japan in 2012, and this video was recorded live exactly one year before their visit. The focus of Mara 5 is the treatment of the horns, and Pavo says in the bonus video on this point: "Separating the solo horns from the orchestra creates a dramatic effect, like an operatic stage. When you stand in front of the orchestra, the effect is enormous. (omission) Some people look down on dramatic visual effects, but that is part of Mahler's language. There is no need to excuse it." Samuel Seidenberg gives a wonderful solo in this video. Then there is "Tragic," recorded in 2013. This piece also has the most intense and dramatic energy of Mahler's symphonies. Pervo says that this work overwhelms him no matter how many times he shakes it, and the final movement has a great visual effect, with the hammers shaken off and the cymbals sounding at the same time. Pervo also mentions the number of hammers, "I use two, and recently I've started using three. The three times can be tied to a variety of events. One is the death of his daughter; the second has to do with Alma; the third is heart disease. And one he removed would be Alma." The images convey an intense tension that leaves the audience gasping for breath. King International.
