The recording featured here is live footage from a performance at the Verdi Festival in Parma in October 2007. The production features the great prima donna Fiorenza Cedrins in the title role, Marcelo Álvarez—currently among the foremost tenors for singing sweet Verdi roles—as Rodolfo, the great baritone Leo Nucci as Miller, Luisa’s father, and another veteran, Giorgio Surian, as Count Walter—an astonishingly star-studded cast. Furthermore, Donato Renzetti’s conducting—which places great emphasis on stylistic precision—is superb, as is Dennis Creefe’s direction, which skillfully blends traditional staging with a contemporary aesthetic.
