A collection of Chopin and French modern preludes and nocturnes! With the exception of Chopin, this CD contains preludes and nocturnes from the French modern era. The highlight is Georges Migot's four nocturnes, which make up half of this CD, and are probably the world premiere recording. The music is depressing, austere, but poetic, with an indescribable charm. Poulenc's light, playful musical delights, and the loveliness of "Song = Dream" written by Jean-Jacques Werner (1935-2017) for his daughter Sophie, are also wonderful. The nocturne by Georges Auric, one of the sextet, based on the ballet "The Troubled Ones," is also probably a world premiere recording. Needless to say, the works by Chopin, Fauré, and Debussy are masterpieces. Patricia Panney is a French pianist. She completed her studies at the Verdi Conservatory in Milan and the Zurich Conservatory. Her excellent technique and soft, fragrant playing are perfectly suited to French modern music.
