Live from the Torre del Lago Puccini Festival! A spectacular production of “Tosca” unique to an open-air theater! Footage from the 2007 production of “Tosca” at the Puccini Festival in Torre del Lago is now available. Directed by Polish-born Igor Mitrai, the production adheres to a traditional staging approach while centering on Tosca’s “love and death.” Mitrai’s artistic vision comes to life in scenes such as Scarpia’s murder. The role of Tosca is played by the Taranto-born soprano, Cifrone. She is well-known in Italy for her portrayal of Puccini’s heroines. Secco, who plays Cavaradossi, is a tenor born in Milan in 1973. He is considered the most promising Italian tenor in his 30s. And, as you may know, the veteran bass singer Surjan makes a strong impression as Scarpia. Another highlight is conductor Galli. He was a major breakout star at the time of the performance, at the young age of 27. In addition to his musical interpretation, which showcases his talent, the sight of this quite handsome young Italian man is a special treat unique to this video.
