Description:
Guila Bustavo (1916-2002) was an American violinist. At the age of four, she was already playing with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, and at the age of five, she studied with Leon Zametini, a student of Ysaÿe. At the age of 5, she studied with Leon Zametini under Ysaÿe, and at the same time, she traveled to Europe to perform with Furtwängler, Erbendrödt, Mengelberg, and others, and also studied under Georges Enesco in Paris. However, after the war, she was accused of performing in concerts sponsored by the Nazi regime, and she was virtually barred from performing in the U.S. She was forced to perform only in Europe until 1970, when she returned to Japan. This album is a collection of rare broadcast recordings recently discovered by Bustavo, who was forced to lead an unhappy life despite her emergence as a child prodigy. Her performance of Khachaturian's Violin Concerto is overwhelmingly passionate and well worth listening to. Tobu Shoji Co.
