She holds a master's degree in harpsichord from the Royal Stockholm School of Music and, together with her husband, recorder player Dan Laughlin, has been active in music from the Middle Ages to the 18th century. Her recordings of Rouman's "12 Keyboard Sonatas" (BIS SA-2095, BIS SA-2135) and "12 Flute Sonatas" (BIS SA-2105, SA-2155) have been highly acclaimed and are both highly enjoyable albums. The music of Caroline Riddesthorpe on the new album had been virtually forgotten for almost 200 years until Paradiso rediscovered it while exploring 19th-century Swedish salon music with Dowling. Caroline Riddeschtorpe was born in Berlin in 1793. Her maiden name was Kolbe. She received a broad musical education, singing, playing instruments, and composing. She lived in Sweden from 1823, when she married Baron Fredrik Ludvig Riddestorpe, governor of Västmanland, where she met the leading musicians, writers, and painters of the time in the salons of the court. He composed mainly songs and piano pieces, and in 1850 was nominated an honorary member of the Royal Academy of Music. Riddesthorpe's songs and solo piano pieces, while belonging to the salon music genre, are of extremely high quality, and the intimacy with which they approach the listener is a major attraction of her music, according to Paradiso. Her songs reflect the personal dedications of such musicians as Clara and Robert Schumann, Fanny and Felix Mendelssohn, and Franz Liszt, whom she met through salons in Sweden and Germany, and they also reflect the "sadness" and "depth" of Beethoven, Schubert, and the Schumanns' music. Paradiso also notes that her songs reveal the "sadness" and "depth" of Beethoven, Schubert, and Schumann. Riddesthorpe also uses the works of famous Swedish poets of the time, such as the now forgotten Julia Nyberg (1785-1854), also known as Euphrosyne, as well as Swedish translations of poems by Thomas Moore and Siegfried August Mahlmann, as texts for her songs, and she uses the poems and music as a unifying force. The music was composed in harmony with the poems. The program began with "What Do These Lonely Tears Desire?" by Heinrich Heine and closed with "Longing" by Erich Gustav Jaehl (1783-1847), who himself was a composer. Swedish mezzo-soprano Christina Hammarstrem, who has sung at opera houses in Milan and Vienna, will perform with Anna Paradiso. Paradiso performs three solo pieces, "Mina sista hostblommor - Lieder ohne Worte och marscher for piano-forte" (My Last Autumn Flowers - Lieder and March for Pianoforte). The recording session took place at the Duveboo Church near Stockholm, and a square piano built by Erik Jakobsson was used for the performance to follow the sound of Lidde Stolpe's time.
