Robert de Vizet was a French guitarist, theorbo player, singer, and composer.Around 1680, he became a court musician under Louis XIV and composed works for theorbo, lute, and guitar. His solo theorbo works, mainly French dances, are works of the utmost beauty. Lindberg's superb technique and expressiveness bring out the charm of this work. For this performance, Lindberg and Lowe visited Paris in the late 1970s and measured two theorbo instruments in the Musée de la Musique (Museum of Music). Based on the design and dimensions of the instruments, Lowe built a theorbo with a fingerboard string length of 89 cm and the longest low string length of 160 cm. Since then, Lindberg has used this instrument in chamber music, opera, and oratorio as well as solo performances. (King International)
