Friends Semenenko and Belogrov take on three American violin sonatas on this SACD hybrid disc. Violinist Alexei Semenenko, born in Odessa, Ukraine, and Artem Belogurov, born in Riga, Latvia, who spent his childhood in Odessa, have taken on the challenge of performing three American violin sonatas! They are friends from Odessa's Stolyarsky Special Music School. Since becoming professionals, they have performed together regularly, albeit from different locations. Even at the "crossroads" of their careers, their friendship has not changed at all, and they are still bound by a strong bond. André Previn's Violin Sonata No. 2, which he wrote for Anne-Sophie Mutter in 2011, is well known. Tony Shenmer (1946-) and Paul Gay (1931-) are both Boston-based composers. Both were composed in the 1980s with a fashionable fusion of jazz and classical music. These two works have been recorded for the first time, each in the presence of the composer. King International
