Complementing Symphony No. 17. Violin Concerto No. 2 and Symphony No. 17, which reveal the magnificent world of Pettechon's later years! Christian Lindberg continues his series of recordings with the Norrkoping Symphony Orchestra of the contemporary Swedish composer Alan Petteshon. This disc features Symphony No. 17 (section) and Violin Concerto No. 2. The Violin Concerto No. 2 was written for solo violin and large orchestra and runs over 50 minutes. It is a hard and powerful work in which the solo part is almost entirely played. Ulf Varin, who is well-known for his work on the BIS label, gives an impassioned performance. The first draft of this work was premiered by Ida Haendel on January 25, 1980. Pettechon's unfinished Symphony No. 17. A supplemented and completed version by German composers Markus Brilka and Lindberg has now been recorded.The dark and violent passages that are characteristic of Pettechon's late compositional style and that seem to represent his life appear here and there, but the clear sound of the strings and the beautiful melody that seems to be dreaming of heaven are also impressive.
