Performed on the Stradivarius used by Auer! A superb Brahms album by Gruzman, with the brilliant Gaffigan! SACD Hybrid Edition. violinist Wajim Gruzman, a signature artist of the BIS label. Specializing in Russian works by Prokofiev, Tchaikovsky, Shostakovich, and others, he performed Glazunov's Violin Concerto during a concert in Japan in October 2016. The passionate performance thrilled the audience. This disc is a fully-filled recording of Brahms. Both are Brahms' masterpieces that Joseph Joachim was involved in their premieres. Gruzman plays on a 1690 Stradivarius 'ex-Leopold Auer' (on long-term loan by courtesy of the Stradivari Society of Chicago), which was once used by Leopold Auer. With a lustrous and graceful tone, they took on Brahms' masterpiece. The concerto was performed by the Lucerne Symphony Orchestra, conducted by James Gaffigan. Gaffigan, born in 1979, is an American conductor who won the first prize at the Scholti International Conducting Competition in 2004 and has since performed with the world's most prestigious orchestras.
