Description:

Rostropovich & Israel Philharmonic Orchestra Live January, 1975 Tchaikovsky's "Pathetique" LiveMustislav Rostropovich conducted the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra in a performance of Tchaikovsky's "Pathetique" Symphony and "Francesca da Rimini". As is well known, during the Soviet era, Rostropovich was considered a dissident by the authorities for his advocacy of the physicist Sakharov and the writer Solzhenitsyn, and his performance activities were severely restricted. In 1974, he obtained a two-year visa to leave the country and went into exile in the Soviet Union.Rostropovich began his conducting career in earnest in the West, where he demonstrated his real ability in Russian works by Rimsky=Korsakov, Prokofiev, Shostakovich, and others, and made a succession of recordings. The most representative recording of his time, however, was the complete Tchaikovsky symphonies, which made his expressive spirit and abilities widely known. In fact, Tchaikovsky's "Pathetique" must have been very dear to Rostropovich's heart. In addition to the session recording of Rostropovich's "Pathetique" with the London Philharmonic Orchestra at Kingsway Hall in London in October 1976, Rostropovich also conducted the Washington National Symphony Orchestra on its triumphal return to his homeland after 16 years at the invitation of Gorbachev, A live recording of a performance at the Great Hall of the Moscow Conservatory in February 1990 is also known.Rostropovich, one of the greatest cello players of the second half of the 20th century, was known for his bold tone, which he used to express himself on a large scale, This style is also applicable to the case of conducting. The new release is a live recording of a concert held in January 1975, in which Rostropovich gave a passionate performance of Tchaikovsky, his favorite piece, in which he seemed to pour out all his heart and soul. Digitally remastered from the Israel Philharmonic Archives. King International
