The second release by the prestigious military band of the Netherlands! The second Channel Classics release by the prestigious military band of the Royal Netherlands Navy, founded in 1945. The previous release (CCS40818), a collection of works written for military band by great Russian composers such as Rimsky=Korsakov, Stravinsky, Prokofiev, and Shostakovich, attracted much attention with its elaborate program and high performance quality. In the second volume, the stage was moved to Germany and Austria, and the original works written for wind bands (wind bands, military bands, etc.) by the great Austro-German composers from Beethoven to Hindemith were recorded. The full performance depicts the evolution and development of the symphonic wind band over almost a century and a half. Conducted by Arjan Thien, who became Music Director and Chief Conductor of the Royal Netherlands Naval Band in 2017. Mendelssohn's "Nocturne" features the original 19th century instrumentation of the rare bass brass instrument, the ophicleide.Attention all wind & brass band players and military band enthusiasts!
