A Valuable Legacy of Norwegian Music, Which Underwent Significant Changes After the War A joint project of the Norwegian Cultural Council, the Norwegian Academy of Music, Norwegian Broadcasting Corporation (NRK), and SimaxClassics. A series tracing the artistic evolution of Norwegian music, which flourished significantly after World War II, through recordings by representative musicians. The artists featured in Volume 5 are the Norwegian Woodwind Quintet, formed in 1955 by five wind players from the Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra. Pear Oyen on flute, Erik Nør Låsen on oboe, Erik Anresen on clarinet, Odd Uvelberg on horn, and Torleiv Nedberg on bassoon. All of them were soloists with the Philharmonic. This album showcases the music of the Norwegian Woodwind Quintet, which brought a breath of fresh air to the Norwegian music scene. The nine tracks—including one of the genre’s masterpieces, Nielsen’s Quintet composed in 1922—feature recordings that are being released on CD for the first time, with the exception of two tracks: one from their first solo album released in 1974 (Philips 6507043) and another from a Norwegian Broadcasting Corporation recording. Mastering was handled by Audun Stripe and Simax Classics producer Erik Gard Amundsen. The stereo recordings from the 1970s have been brought back to life with a fresh, vibrant sound.
