Löwvari started his career as a percussionist and studied at the Sibelius Academy of Music, but eventually became interested in conducting as well, conducting the Philharmonia Orchestra for the first time in 2013 and becoming its principal guest conductor in 2018. In 2021, he performed R. Strauss at the opening concert of his new position as principal conductor, and the recording (OSIGCD720, SIGCD720) was selected as a "Special Mention" by Record Geijutsu magazine. His previous recordings (XSIGCD760 and SIGCD760) of Mahler with the orchestra were selected as "Orchestral Choice" by the BBC Music Magazine.
