The Yorkshire Baroque Soloists (YBS) were founded in 1973 in Yorkshire, in northern England, a region that once thrived on mining. Featuring renowned singers such as Charles Daniels, Peter Harvey, Julian Poggi, and Matthew Brook, the YBS’s grand performance of Bach’s “St. Matthew Passion” is based on the “early version (BWV 244b)” as edited by Andreas Greckner. This early version of the “St. Matthew Passion”—said to have been performed on Good Friday in 1727—is presented in a collaboration between world-class singers and a historic Yorkshire period orchestra.
