The War was formed in Long Beach, California in 1969 by Eric Burdon, formerly of The Animals. The group's diverse ethnic membership and musicality, which crossed genres such as soul, jazz, Latin, funk, R&B, and rock, quickly garnered attention, breaking down racial barriers through their music and gaining a wide range of fans.The band has been a driving force in the West Coast funk scene with Tower of Power and Sly & the Family Stone, and despite several member changes, continues to revolutionize the world with its sound and message, led by keyboard player Ronnie Jordan, who has supported the group since its early days. Their third album under the War name, THE WORLD IS A GHETTO, released in 1972, debuted at #1 on the US album charts and was named Billboard's #1 album of the year in 1973, It is an epochal masterpiece that cannot be overlooked when discussing the War, and it continues to shine as a representative work of the West Coast funk scene.Last year, to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the release of this masterpiece album, a 5-CD analog box set "THE WORLD IS A GHETTO (50TH ANNIVERSARY COOLECTOR'S EDITION)" was released, featuring songs from the original album and many unreleased tracks. However, this 50th anniversary edition, which was released only in analog format, is now available as a 4-CD set entitled "THE WORLD IS A GHETTO: THE COMPLETE SESSIONS". THE WORLD IS A GHETTO: THE COMPLETE SESSIONS was curated by War producer Jerry Goldstein and founding band member Ronnie Jordan.In addition to the latest remastering of the original album, six bonus tracks and "The Making of the Tracks," a one-song compilation of the creative process for each of the six songs on the original album, are included here, making this a truly "complete" album that shows the greatness of one of the best funk albums of the 70's.
