Jon Batiste, a musician/singer/songwriter who has garnered attention for his work in the film "Soulful World," presents his Verve debut album on 180g vinyl 2LP. An educator and television personality, Batiste holds a master's degree from the Juilliard School of Music, has played in the band Stay Human, and is the creative director of the Tha National Museum in Harlem, among other things. He is also the creative director of Tha National Museum in Harlem, and was selected as one of Forbes' 30 under 30. He has also been an ambassador for fashion brands Ralph Lauren, Bonobos, and Barney's, and has been featured in many fashion magazines. John's mission is to share his faith, hope and love with the world around him. This work was recorded at a church in New Orleans and produced by T-Bone Burnett. It is basically just John's piano and voice.Some songs have choruses, strings, etc. added, and the album includes covers, originals, and a piano-only instrumental, a simple but powerful work that conveys his beliefs. The title "HOLLYWOOD AFRICANS" is taken from a 1983 painting by Jean Michel Basquiat of the same name. As a black musician, he is filled with gratitude for his longtime predecessors in the American entertainment industry who worked under masks to create and preserve blues, rock and roll, boogie-woogie, jazz, gospel, and more.
