After releasing "Trios" in 2013, Carla Bley's trio is back with their first new album in three years. The trio's first new album in three years, "Trios," was released in 2013, and it is another collection of original new compositions by Carla Bley herself, with the jazz composer's flair shining through. Saints Alive!" features Steve Swallow and Andy Sheppard talking on their instruments. Naked Bridges/Diving Brides" also shows influences from Mendelssohn and Paul Haines' poetry. The main focus is the three-part song of the title, which describes the trials and tribulations of recovery from addiction, moving from sadness to joy to hope. The trio with Sheppard and Swallow has been together for more than 20 years now, and this is the best of both worlds, with Carla's unique piano playing in a band where her compositions are at their best. Like its predecessor, this album was recorded at RSI Studio in Lugano, produced by Manfred Eicher, and celebrates Carla's 80th birthday on May 11, 206.
