Herbie Hancock and Wynton Marsalis have praised him! The title "Warna" means "color" in his native language, Indonesian. The album is literally his most original to date, incorporating a wide variety of techniques. It is a condensation of everything he has been steadily growing as a composer, bandleader, and musician since his breakthrough album "Eclipse" in 2018. The album is a record of his own travels to various places on tour, and Joey says of the album, "I wanted to share original work that I created from my own experiences and musical dialogues on stage and on the road, where I do sessions with various musicians." The preceding single, "Downtime," was written for those special moments when you get off stage and explore a new city or spend time with family and friends.The recording features drummer Kendrick Scott, whose innovative sound is bringing new life to the jazz world, and Larry Grenadier, one of the leading bass players in jazz today.
