Paul Heaton of The Housemartins / The Beautiful South and Jacqui Abbott, lead vocalist of The Beautiful South, have formed a duo unit, and this is their 4th album in 3 years. Producer John Williams, a longtime friend of Heaton's from his first band, the Housemartins, and from all three of the duo's albums, continues to work with Heaton on this album, which was recorded at Blueprint Studios in Salford, Manchester. Heaton, who has been based in Manchester for the past 17 years, has been lamenting the city's recent metropolitanization and has expressed his opposition to the city's "big city" mentality. He laments the metropolitanization of Manchester in recent years, and says that anti-development/anti-indulgence and dissatisfaction with excessive modernization are the themes of this work.
