A Natural Sense of Style! First Place & Mazurka Award, Eric Guo The Real Chopin" project, in which Chopin's works are performed on instruments (original and restored) from the time of Chopin's life, has been undertaken by the Frederic Chopin Institute (NIFC/Narodowy Instytut Fryderyka Chopina) in Poland since its foundation. Chopin" project, in which Chopin's works are performed on instruments (original and restored) from the period in which he lived. The "Chopin International Period Instrument Competition" was launched as a major national project of Poland, not to mention the Chopin Institute, to further revitalize this groundbreaking effort to bring the sounds of Chopin's era back to the present. Five years after the first competition in 2018, in which Shigehiko Kawaguchi, Japan's world-renowned historical piano virtuoso, won the 2nd prize, 35 pianists who passed the preliminary rounds gathered in Warsaw for the 2nd Chopin International Period Instrument Competition in 2023. The "sounds of Chopin's time" were played continuously during the two-week period of the competition. While all six finalists chose the "Piano Concerto No. 1", Eric Guo, who won the first prize and the Mazurka Prize, is now available in a live recording of the competition. Eric Guo, who himself said that he had "almost no experience playing ancient instruments (including period piano)," adapted to period instruments and techniques at an astonishingly fast pace during the competition. He showed us the "Chopin era" on all stages of the first, second, and final rounds. For the release of this live recording, the Chopin Institute selected Eric Guo's performances of "Piano Concerto No. 1," "Three Mazurkas, Op. 59," and "Waltz, Op. 42.Please pay attention to the wonderful program that concentrates the footprints and charm of Eric Guo, who won the first prize and the Mazurka Prize at the competition!
