Description:
The most acclaimed musicians of this century have come together! The multi-generational quintet by one of the finest pianists of our time, Kenny Barron, is now available on CD/LP! A delicate and graceful piece that engages each world in a multifaceted space!LP version includes two bonus tracksThe multi-generational quintet album "Beyond This Place" by Kenny Barron, the greatest pianist of our time, is released on CD/2LP by Artwork Records. The LP version only includes two bonus tracks. Kenny Barron is a jazz pianist born in Philadelphia, U.S.A., in 1943, and has recorded many albums as a bandleader and sideman for artists such as Stan Getz, Dizzy Gillespie, Buddy Rich, Freddie Hubbard, and Ron Carter over his 60+ year career. He has also worked with Stan Getz, Dizzy Gillespie, Buddy Rich, Freddie Hubbard, Ron Carter and many others. A living legend who has received 11 Grammy nominations, an honorary doctorate from Berklee College of Music, and numerous other accolades. This album, Beyond This Place, encompasses all the elements of Kenny Barron's musical universe, which has been at the forefront of modern jazz for more than 60 years. 2023, his first album on the Artwork label, his solo work The Source, earned him a Grammy Award Nominated for a Grammy Award for his first solo album for the Artwork label, "The Source," this project is a departure from the atmosphere of his previous work. To keep the album as close to orchestral composition as possible, but with the coloration of modern jazz, it is a hybrid quintet composition, featuring four of the most acclaimed musicians of this century. Immanuel Wilkins, a rising star on saxophone; Jonathan Blake, one of the finest drummers of his generation; bassist Kiyoshi Kitagawa, a longtime collaborator with Kenny Barron; and Steve Nelson, one of the most highly regarded vibraphonists of his generation. The result is a very delicate album that involves each of these formats in a multifaceted space. This album opens with "The Nearness of You," a standard number composed by Hoagy Carmichael.Performed in a quartet configuration minus Steve Nelson, Immanuel Wilkins' saxophone caresses the theme without ever becoming colorless, and Barron always displays great pianistic virtuosity. And on "We See" (a Thelonious Monk classic), which closes the album as a duo with Wilkins, Baron expresses Monk's vivacity and playfulness while going far beyond Monk's angular style and showing it here without hiding his debt to him.
