Sefi Zisling, one of the most up-and-coming trumpeters on the Israeli jazz scene, has released "The Librarian," a collection of works for those dear to him! The Librarian," the third album by Tel Aviv trumpeter Sefi Zisling, who has garnered international attention and support from the likes of Gilles Peterson and Alice Russell, is now available on Tru Thoughts! Blending classical elements with psychedelic funk, soul, and spiritual jazz, The Librarian is a tribute to all he holds dear, from his own musical influences to those of his wife, friends, and Eyad, a Palestinian who inspired him. I chose this title because I am the Librarian of this work. Like a librarian, I memorize music, catalog it in my head, and enjoy it. In other words, this piece is littered with "postcards" referenced from my beloved music library.From the title track "The Librarian," inspired by Bennie Maupin's "The Jewel in Lotus," to the "rich, powerful, and vibrant" instrumental "Layla," a tribute to Sefi's wife, who was tragically killed by police gunfire, to "Song for Eyad," a song dedicated to an autistic Palestinian From "Song for Eyad," dedicated to the autistic Palestinian, to "Song for Eyad," all six songs encapsulate Sefi Zisling's evolution as a composer and performer!
