Includes two versions of "Illuminations" in English and French, The strength of the human voice sung with barbers,,Britten's "Illuminations, Op.18", first recording in English. This is a new translation by Timothy Ades, who is known as a master translator of poems from many countries. The original French version is also included for comparison. Illuminations" is a dreamy, symbolic prose poem written by Rimbaud between 1872 and 1873, which dreamily flows through the city and nature, sex, the artist's loneliness, and social protest. The coupling is Barber's dramatic masterpiece "Knoxville: Summer of 1915, Op. 24." Composed a few years after "Illumination," it is based on a prose poem written by James Agee in 1938, in which he reminisces about when he was five years old. A dreamlike time spent with his family turns into a description that alludes to his father's death toward the end of the film. These two works are among the most personal and powerful pieces of music ever written for the human voice, vividly portraying human drama through the great upheavals of the 20th century and the violent changes of life through the colors of language and harmony.Yulia Kogan, a beautiful singer, was born in Ukraine and studied in the United States.
