Description:
The famous recording of "Songs of Travel," highly praised by Vaughan Williams himself, is reissued! Albion Records, an independent label of the Vaughan Williams Society, which has been featuring unknown, buried, and unpublished works by Leif Vaughan Williams, is pleased to announce the reissue of a rare, buried recording of "Songs of Travel," which was originally recorded in London in the fall of 1954 and released on LP the following year on Westminster Records. This is the first complete recording of Vaughan Williams' "Songs of Travel" by Richard Standen & Frederick Stone, recorded in London in the fall of 1954 and released on LP the following year on Westminster Records in the U.S. (excluding "Up the Hill, Down the Hill," which was discovered and published after Vaughan Williams' death. 8 songs). It is said that Vaughan Williams himself was aware of the existence of this recording and highly appreciated it, but it has been sold to ABC-Paramount Records, which acquired Westminster Records in the early 1960s, MCA, which subsequently acquired the master recording rights, and Deutsche Grammophon, which currently owns the master recording rights. Deutsche Grammophon, which currently owns the original recording rights, has never reissued the album.Ronald Graimes of the Vaughan Williams Society has carefully reissued and remastered the two LPs from the 1959 reissue to minimize sound degradation and to get as close as possible to the original sound of the LPs, bringing this rare and famous recording into the spotlight for the first time in many years. The coupling also includes songs by various composers from the British Isles, including recordings that have been unavailable for some time. Richard Standen was a well-known singer in Europe at the time, having sung at many of the major music festivals in England, appeared in numerous BBC recitals and concert broadcasts, and was praised for his solo performance of Bach's two Passions under the direction of Vaughan Williams. Frederick Stone was a staff accompanist for the BBC for almost 30 years beginning in the 1930s, and was a pianist active in all aspects of BBC broadcasting. Tokyo M-Plus
