Description:
RORYSALTER, an experimental musician from London, UK, known for releases under the names TWEEDLE and MALVERNBRUME, has launched a new project, THESPRIGS, and released a new album, *FORREDRIVERBANK*, which engages with the nostalgia of British folk music. Based on Kenneth Grahame’s classic children’s novel *The Wind in the Willows*, this work is imbued with nostalgia for British folk culture and romantic fantasy. Choruses that sound like old Protestant hymns and rich, textured loops of ambient sounds, the peculiar resonance of simple, almost naive folk songs, and the occasional sound reminiscent of an old recorder—all collaged together to create a soundscape where gritty noise and nostalgic simplicity clash, leaving a vivid impression. It is a wonderful work that shares affinities with EFFICIENTSPACE’s masterpiece compilation *TIME IS AWAY*, various works by JONCOLLIN, and SANDRA KERR AND JOHN FAULKNER’s *THE MUSIC FROM BAGPUSS*.
