Alexandre Tharaud presents Ravel's intended jazz idiom with his own masterful technique and emotional touch, produced in limited quantities on 180g analog LP vinyl. The album features Ravel's two piano concertos recorded with the Orchestre National de France under the direction of Louis Langrée. Ravel's "Piano Concerto in G major" is fresh and Mozartian in color, while "Piano Concerto for the Left Hand" is plagued by dark shades and repressed fears," Tharaud said. Both concertos were premiered in 1932. As is characteristic of Ravel, they are at once unique and similar. They share a meticulous craftsmanship and a touch of jazz, and both seem to evoke the ghosts of small, automatically moving machines and war. They use a wide variety of elements, including folk songs from the Basque Country, Ravel's mother's native region, Spanish music, and jazz idioms.
