Description:

Wylde Frang's lyrical performance of Elgar's work, which captures the content and brings out the extraordinary beauty of Elgar's work. Newly written commentary by Kotaro Yamazaki. Elgar's Violin Concerto is nostalgic with a unique passion and is one of the great concertos of the late Romantic period. At the concerto's 1910 premiere, it was performed by the London Symphony Orchestra and not by a British soloist but by Fritz Kreisler, one of the great violinists born in Vienna. Kreisler said, "Elgar's melody, orchestration, harmony, grandeur, it's wonderful. And all pure, unaffected music." Although he commissioned the work with the view that it was "pure and unaffected music," Kreisler did not like it much and left no recordings of it. As a violinist himself, Elgar had a close relationship with the London Symphony Orchestra, and in 1932 Elgar conducted the legendary "Violin Concerto" with Yehudi Menuhin, then only 16, as soloist for a recording at the Abbey Road Studios.Wilde Flang actually came to know of this concerto quite late, but she felt that the form of this work is so magnificent as music, more on the scale of a symphony than a violin concerto, that she had longed for a recording of it. It is quite difficult to delicately depict this piece unless one has a particularly fine sense of expressing the inner world of the piece, which is encompassed by its tone and conception, not to mention the technical aspects of the piece. The result is a performance filled with great singing and expressiveness. Vilde Flang gave a concert prior to this recording and gave a wonderful review of the performance, calling it "a wonderful performance that brought out Elgar's extraordinary beauty. Performed with the Deutsches Symphonieorchester Berlin conducted by Robin Ticciati, the violin solo and orchestra coexist beautifully, and the performance is impressive, full of nobility, nuance, and lyricism. The album also includes a violin and piano version of Elgar's rarely performed work "Carissima," with Thomas Hoppe at the piano. Warner Music Japan
